Is a medieval death cult stalking Westhill College?

That's the question facing school newspaper editor Colin Mitchell when a girl's body is found ritualistically murdered in front of the arts building. A strange symbol found at the scene may connect the crime to a terrifying and mysterious ancient military religious order founded over a thousand years ago during the Crusades.

As he digs deeper into the mystery, Colin begins to uncover a trail of murder and corruption that extends far beyond his worst nightmares. As the bodies pile up, he's going to need to use every last bit of his insider knowledge and investigative ability, because the police are starting to zero in on him as their prime suspect...and the killer is closer than he thinks.

Deadline is the first in a series of nerve-shredding thrillers from the award-winning and internationally bestselling author Craig McLay.

A well-written tale, cleverly blending the two themes of religious (?) cult and executive graft. I'm not keen on cult stories, especially those of early origins. I would have been more content with the graft angle by itself, and Holy Thorn did not ring a serious note with me. So be it - I enjoyed Colin but did not get to know Janice. I got the feeling the reader was being prepped for a sequel.

Loved this book.......Colin & Yu make a great team. Couldn't put in down. I found the radical religious aspect tied in with today's corporate greed interesting. Colin provided insight into how the two mesh with humor and intelligence. Thankfully I've finally found a well written story with a hint of intimacy without reading the normal gratuitous descriptions of,,,,,,well, you know. I definitely plan to read more by Craig McKay. Well done.
This one hooked me in and didn't let up. It's intriguing, exciting and even has some chuckle-worthy lines along with the gruesome moments. Highly recommended to pretty much anyone who enjoys mysteries and thrillers.
This is probably the most favorite book I have read so far since getting my . At first I could't really get into the main character for some reason, I think because I was coming from such a different book and different style of writing. I put the book down for a day or two, went to something else and came back to it; when I did, I was blown away! The main character has this cutting wit about him, which always seemed to be pointed at those whom he seemed to have the least respect (deservedly). The killer in the story line commits awful crimes that will make you cringe, and each turn of the page brings intrigue and questions as to who he is, why he is doing what he is doing and how he will be found. For me, this was one of those books I just couldn't put down.
Journalism students at a smaller university in Canada get swept up serial killer cult madness.

I always enjoy stories about beginning reporters getting the story of a lifetime. And about corruption everywhere and the struggle to overcome it.

And ancient religious cults.

At first I thought the author throwing the horror at us in a chaotic jumbled manner, but it smoothed out and turned out to be a really good story.

I hope for sequels.
Intriguing story. Definitely kept the reading from thinking ahead too much. I would have liked the author to let the line out a little so I could make some assumptions as to what was coming next and who the real villains might be. Would have given me a sense of being more part of the story rather than just scrolling through to get to the lunch line.
I like the character of Colin though. I kind of picture a bit of a nerd however and I would have liked to feel he was a bit more manly.
Same is true of Janice in that she could have been described as more feminine and sexy.
All in all, I hope the sequels coming.
I think I could've enjoyed reading but had massive issues trying to get the free book for subscribing to newsletter- Author spends a lot of time describing somethings that aren't necessary/important on not on the people, places, and things that are- Needs editing issues and typos fixed EX West-ill instead of West-hill-
A highly improbable tale of graft and corruption a small town, but a cracking good yarn none the less.

It started off a little slow, but twenty or so pages in we were off to the races.

A murder has been commited on a college campus wiht the body being dismembered, and strange symbol left as a calling card. As the former head of the college newspaper begins to investigate he finds himself blocked at every turn. Once he begins to unravel the cult that appears to be responsible, evidence is found in his apartment linking him to the murders. So he has to solve the mystery on the run from the law.

Dialogue and characterizsion are top-notch and wll keep you clicking the .

Highly recommended.
